Lucky Strickland has lost everything. First it was her dignity and then it was her husband and now it’s her house. She’s penniless, stuck at the McDonalds in Bee Cave, Texas, and her only hope, her brother-in-law, just stole her car.
Eighteen months ago, she was the wife of rock-and-roll legend, Ricky Strickland. Rock-My World, their reality TV show, was number one. Then, on the live season finale, Ricky introduced her to his mistress and their three daughters. Lucky stormed out. Ricky followed after her and wrapped his car around the nearest oak tree.
Will Brodie, Lucky’s bother-in-law, will do anything to get her back home. Lucky needs to grieve for her husband and take care of the lawsuit the realty TV network filed. They want their money back OR for her to film a new realty TV show—with Ricky’s children. Two months ago, Ricky’s daughters lost their mother to cancer—now they only have Will.
If Will can get Lucky to open her heart to the girls and to him, maybe he can finally give Lucky the family she’s always wanted.

Have read another story by this author and it was better. This one fell flat from almost the beginning. I was first thinking that Lucky was unbelievably sweet and forgiving and shortly after, thinking how unbelievably gullible and dense. Does she have self-esteem issues? What?*Spoiler*
How could an adult woman NOT know her FAMOUS husband was cheating with the same woman their entire marriage? Not only that, half-raising a fricking brood? I agree with other readers that the story is not fleshed out from the very beginning. Not reading the first story, I thought Will to be a covetous and greedy jerk. Why would any woman, cancer survivor or not, just fall right in love with her husband's mistress's kids and want to be an instant mommy? Those pics the teen with the attitude set around HER house? Burned or in the garbage if they didn't disappear. Who lets most of a dead cheating husband's family move in and take over their house? Will continued to be so under-developed, I was just turned off by him and hoped she would just take her money and run.
I could not finish the book. It just dragged, revelaing more unbelievable details that were unrealistic.

Getting Lucky The Marilyns Book 2 edition by Katie Graykowski Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I purchased (?) a free copy of GETTING LUCKY by Katie Graykowski today on and I certainly 'got lucky' when I choose this book!! I normally let new books set for a long time on my tablet after I get them but this book sounded so good I had to read it immediately and I was not disappointed!
I was drawn into the story right from the first as Lucky is sitting eating a Big Mac and fries nearly crying after discovering her prized Manolo Blahnik alligator boots had just sold on eBay for $700. Lucky is selling her priced possessions on eBay due to her dead husband's bizarre will; she only legally owned all the contents of her bedroom closet! If it wasn't insulting enough that a 1 1/2 years ago her late husband had introduced her to his mistress and three children on their reality tv show, Rock-My World!! Now her brother-in-law, Will, wants her to join him and her late husband's 3 daughters to do another reality show!
This is a funny, heart warming story that won't let you go until you finish it! So, make sure you're wearing something comfortable and have no other plans for the day before starting this novel because once you starting reading it you won't want to stop!!
“Did you not really know that your husband had three kids with his mistress until he introduced them to you on live TV?”
Lucky Strickland didn’t know. Since she had very much wanted to have her husband Ricky’s children but couldn’t – due to cervical cancer – she was devastated. Then, shortly after, Ricky was killed when he drove into a tree. The production company for their TV reality show then sued for breach of contract. But Ricky’s lawyer brother Will has a solution – a new reality show starring Lucky with Ricky’s out-of-wedlock children.
Lucky is dead broke. Ricky left her with nothing in his will, and probate for the rest – their house, all his money, and all his personal belongings – will tie them up for months. It could even take years of the other woman and her children claim inheritance from Ricky’s estate. Still, Lucky wants no part of Will’s suggestion.
Ms Graykowski spins a very rational and realistic tale with these tangled threads without relying on odd coincidences to make it work. It is very well done. I am looking forward to the third book of this series when it becomes available.
I started out being sad for Lucky but ended up being happy for her.
Lucky was married to rock star, Ricky Strickland. She could buy anything she wanted. Can you imagine paying $14,000 for a pair of boots? Not me! But that came to an abrupt stop when Ricky died. That happened immediately after he introduced his mistress and their 3 children on their reality TV show. What a shock when his will was read and Lucky learned that all he left her was the contents of her closet. Now it was huge with lots in it but what about the house and everything else? Turned out that Ricky was a good guy just not a good husband. Too embarrassed to tell her friends what happened, Lucky was living in her car. Could things get worse? Yes. The TV station was sueing her. Unless she agreed to do another reality show for them, with Ricky's daughters.
Will, Ricky's manager/brother and Lucky's brother-in-law, entices her to go back home. Where he is living with his nieces. I liked the girls. I couldn't help love the 5-year-old. She was so cute. The teen hated everybody and everything but just wanted to be loved. Lucky's friends (the other Marilyns) were terrific. Everyone should have friends like them. Will was exceptional at negotiating contracts and could get the best deal possible but wasn't too bright when it came to relationships. He'd loved Lucky since he first saw her but never let her know.
If you like books with ups and downs but have happy endings, you'll like Getting Lucky.
